Diary of a (Maybe) Retired Pastor

Things that probably ought not to be said from the pulpit …!

I’m not entirely sure if I’m retired. Technically, I am: I don’t have an employer any more, having stepped-down from my role as Senior Pastor in a Manchester church, and I’m drawing my state pension and have a Senior Citizen’s bus and tram pass (a wonderful thing – I love it!). But, I don’t think it inside my head. I never used the word “retiring” when I began the process of stepping-down at my church – although the church and the members automatically spoke of it as my retiring – rather, I thought of it as a changing of roles. But what role would that be? This was, and is, the question.

So, here I am, waiting patiently (sort of) to see what will open up. After a year or so, I have decided to try blogging! When I mentioned it to a good friend he burst out laughing! Yes, it maybe just a substitute for the weekly sermon prep. but, maybe the musings of an uncertainly retired former pastor might be of interest to some! Here goes …
